How to calculate LED Screen Resolution

Nowadays, LED display screen is widely used for different fields such as commercial use, stage events, broadcastings.

Many clients have the high demand of the resolution about the LED screens, they wants to reach “4K’’ and “8K’’ screens, but most of them do not understand how to calculate the resolution of the LED display screen. The definition of the resolution of LED display

To understand the resolution of the LED screen, we need to know some other concepts of the LED screen first.

For example, what is pixels, how does it related to the LED display screen.

A pixel is one of the small dots or squares that make up an image on a LED screen.

The more pixels there are, the more the image looks real or accurate.

Any digital image is made up of pixels, and when someone talks about the resolution of the LED display, they’re referring to the number of pixels.

The LED display resolution is the number of distinct pixels in the respective dimension that can be displayed.

It is generally mentioned as width × height, with the units in pixels: for example, “1920 × 1080” means the width is 1920 pixels and the height is 1080 pixels.

 

The method to calculate the LED display screen resolution

The total resolution of the LED display screen, which refers to the number of pixels that the screen will display.

We can see the LED screens are all made up of pixels, the more pixels of the LED screen, the clearer of the pictures.

That is why the fine pitch LED display screen such as P1.25mm, P1.5mm P1.87mm is more beautiful and clearer.

With same cabinet size, the finer of the pixel pitch, the more pixels on the cabinets, and the resolution is higher.

 

Let us take Excel LED & LEGIDATECH E-honor series indoor LED display screen for example, the cabinet size is 480mm x 320mm.

For indoor P1.25mm pixel pitch, the cabinet horizontal pixel is 480/1.25 = 384 Pixels, and the cabinet vertical pixel is 320/1.25=256Pixels, the resolution for one cabinet is 384(Width) x 256(Height)=98,304Pixels.

And For indoor P2.5mm pixel pitch, the cabinet horizontal pixel is 480/2.5=192Pixels, the cabinet vertical pixel is 320/2.5=128Pixels.

The resolution for one P2.5mm is 192(Width) x 128(Height)=24,576 Pixels.

For the same cabinet size, P1.25mm has more pixels than P2.5mm, that means P1.25mm has better resolution of P2.5mm.

When we have the cabinet pixels, we will easy will check the screen resolution after we get the size from the clients.

 

We can also check the resolution by the sizes offered by the client, for examples, if client require one indoor P1.25mm 9600mm x 3200mm LED display screen, we can calculate by the size.

The width resolution will be 9600/1.25=7680Pixels, and the height resolution will be 3200/1.25=2560 Pixels.

The whole screen resolution will be 7680(W) x 2560(H) =19,660,800Pixels. One screen with this resolution will be very clear and beautiful.

Physical resolution = number of rows of pixels × number of columns

 

How to choose the suitable pixel pitch to reach the perfect resolution of the LED screen

Some of our clients always doubts why did us check with them about the installation site photos and the minimum viewing distance from the audiences.

The minimum viewing distance is one of the important for us to check the most suitable pixel pitch for their project, so that the screen will reach the perfect resolution for the audiences.

If the viewing distance is close, and you recommend the resolution is not that good, then the contents on the LED screen will not that clear enough.

For outdoor LED screen, if people is hardly see the advertising contents on the screen, it will bring down the advertising incomes.

The investors could not get the maximum benefits from the LED screen.

The viewing distance is very important for the supplier to make the solution.

Will the contents affect the resolution of the LED screen?

Yes. Another aspect we should consider while calculating the LED screen resolution is the content that will be displayed on the screen.

The image or video content may have been distorted in different resolutions, such as HD, Full HD or 4K, and displayed in its native resolution for better image quality.

So, to make sure that the resolution of the LED display screen is matching with the video content to be displayed is very important.

If you want to display Full HD contents or 4K video contents on the screen, the screen resolution should be with Full HD resolution or 4K resolution to reach the image in excellent quality on the LED Screens
